GILAS Pilipinas Youth clinched a berth in the FIBA U18 Asia Cup following Indonesia's 77-64 win over Malaysia on Saturday in the SEABA Qualifiers at the MABA Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Philippines and Indonesia are on top of the team standings with 2-0 records following the result of Saturday's matches, ensuring them the top two places for SEABA in the FIBA U18 tournament to be held from September 2 to 7 in Amman, Jordan.
Reigning champion South Korea has already booked a place in the Asia Cup along with host Jordan, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, Mongolia, Chinese Taipei, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, India, and Iran.
Two more teams from the Gulf region will complete the cast of 16 teams in the tournament.
The Philippines and Indonesia will now battle for the SEABA crown on Sunday, 4 p.m. at the MABA Stadium.
Batang Gilas earlier kept its unbeaten slate after mauling Thailand, 87-53.
Andy Gemao, a former NCAA juniors finals MVP with the Letran Squires, had 19 points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals to lead the Gilas U18 team.
Wilham Cabonilas also had a huge game for Gilas U18 by scoring 17 points and hauling nine rebounds.
