Gilas trails New Zealand by 5 at half as Brownlee held scoreless

GILAS Pilipinas trailed New Zealand by five points, 44-39, at halftime of their FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian qualifier on Friday at the Spark Arena in Auckland.

Carl Tamayo, Kevin Quiambao, and Juan Gomez de Liano picked up the scoring cudgels for Gilas with Justin Brownlee held scoreless in the first half.

Tamayo had 11 points after going 3-of-3 from threes in the first half, while Quiambao also made outside shots with 10 points on 2-of-3 from threes.

Gomez de Liano added nine points for Gilas with Brownlee only taking one shot in the first half with the Tall Blacks double teaming the naturalized player almost exclusively when he had ball possession.

    Reuben Te Rangi and Sam Waardenburg led the Tall Blacks in scoring with nine points each, with Tai Webster finished with eight points.
