GILAS Pilipinas shifted its practice into low gear on Saturday afternoon, three days before the Olympic Qualifying Tournament unfolds at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Fresh from an 84-76 loss to Turkey in their tune-up game on Friday, the Filipino dribblers spent most of their time in the viewing room to study the plays of France, their first foe in the Olympic qualifiers on Tuesday.

“Today, it was just going over the sets,” utility man Gabe Norwood said. “It was really not a detailed game plan yet. There’s some tendency of players and just going over some formation that they get into, just to prepare ourselves mentally right now and hit it hard tomorrow.”

“So it’s good to have a relax day, but a mentally draining day than physically,” the versatile Rain or Shine forward added.

Despite the low-key practice, Gilas still held its training behind closed doors, with the media forced to wait outside the MOA Arena before getting to interview players as they stepped outside the venue and headed into the team bus.

National coach Tab Baldwin politely declined to grant an interview as he had to rush to another engagement.
