Gilas keeps status quo, parades same line-up against Australia

THERE will be no changes to the 12-man roster for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers against Australia, according to team manager Alfrancis Chua.

The Philippines will keep the same roster that played in the New Zealand game in Justin Brownlee, Dwight Ramos, Cjay Perez, Juan Gomez de Liano, AJ Edu, Quentin Millora-Brown, Carl Tamayo, Calvin Oftana, Kevin Quiambao, Scottie Thompson, Chris Newsome, and June Mar Fajardo.

Justine Baltazar, RJ Abarrientos, and Troy Rosario will not play for the Sunday game against the Boomers.

“Laban lang hangang hindi tapos ang oras,” said Chua. “We have to believe na kaya namin at bilog ang bola.”

Gilas Pilipinas is out to atone for its 66-63 loss to New Zealand last Thursday, its first defeat of the qualifiers after starting the tournament with two straight wins against Guam in Group A.

Australia comes into the Gilas game with a 3-0 record and clinching a spot in the second round of the tournament after beating Guam, 93-80.

Cjay Perez was a revelation on offense for Gilas against New ZealandRamos topscored for Gilas Pilipinas with 16 points, with Perez being a revelation on offense with 15 markers.

Brownlee, however, struggled with four points on 2-of-10 from the field, missing all his four three-point attempts in the Tall Blacks game.
