Gilas fans back to staying up late for KO game vs host Saudi

GILAS Pilipinas fans in the Philippines will go back to watching the team late at night in its qualification game against Saudi Arabia for a place in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 quarterfinals.

The match-up between the Philippines and Saudi Arabia is scheduled for primetime in Jeddah with a 7 p.m. start time locally on Monday. That means viewers in the Philippines will be able to watch the team at a later time once again at Tuesday, 12 midnight.

The first two games saw Gilas scheduled in the evening session in Jeddah with the game against Chinese Taipei seen in the Philippines last Wednesday, 2 a.m., and New Zealand last Thursday, 11 p.m.

Fans in the Philippines got a break on Saturday when the Iraq game was scheduled at 11 a.m. local time or 4 p.m. Manila time.

    Filipino fans in Jeddah, however, will get to see Gilas on primetime, but will now have to share the venue with the home fans at the King Abdullah Sports City.

    Gilas is eyeing to advance into the quarterfinal round despite two straight losses to start the tournament before finally getting the victory against Iraq, 66-57.

    Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei and Jordan will be playing at an earlier time of 2 p.m. Jeddah time, or 7 p.m. Philippine time, in the other qualification to quarterfinals match-up on that day.
