GILAS Pilipinas returned to the grind on Thursday as it started its buildup for the Fiba Asia Cup next month in Lebanon.
PBA veterans as well some cadets attended the national team's first practice since competing in the Jones Cup in Taipei.
Jayson Castro, June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Terrence Romeo, Matthew Wright, Roger Pogoy, Jio Jalalon, Carl Bryan Cruz, and Gabe Norwood were present in the Fiba Asia team.
Fil-German Christian Standhardinger, who is taking Andray Blatche's place as the team's naturalized player, caught up with his teammates after coming in late.
Calvin Abueva and Raymond Almazan were the only PBA vets absent. Abueva has a game for Alaska in the PBA Governors' Cup on Friday, while Almazan played for Rain or Shine the night before against NLEX.
Castro, Pogoy, Jalalon, and another Alaska player in Cruz, though, are also seeing action in the PBA on Friday in Antipolo.
Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, Ed Daquioag, Raymar Jose, Almond Vosotros, and Fonso Gotladera also joined training to break a sweat and make up the numbers.
British coach Tim Lewis, who handled the Thai national team that faced Gilas in the Seaba Championship last May, was a surprise visitor as he gave the Filipino dribblers defensive pointers.
