TERRENCE Fortea caught lightning in a bottle as he towed Gilas Pilipinas Men's to a close 21-18 victory over Vietnam to start its campaign in the 2019 Fiba 3x3 U-18 Asia Cup Friday in Cyberjaya, Malaysia.
The flamboyant guard torched the opposition with 10 points built on two deuces as the Philippines fought back from an early 5-0 deficit and even took a 15-10 lead with 1:46 remaining.
It wasn't an easy win, though, as Vietnam tied the game at 18 in the final minute, but timely charities from Kevin Quiambao and Gerry Abadiano iced the game for good, with the latter drilling the game-clinching freebie with 8.6 ticks left.
Quiambao added six points, while Abadiano had five in a game which saw Carl Tamayo remain in the sidelines for the entirety of the game.
The Philippines will shoot for the top spot in Pool C when it faces off against Turkmenistan at 5 p.m.
Antony Sundberg paced Vietnam with 11 points in the loss.
PHILIPPINES 21 -- Fortea 10, Quiambao 6, Abadiano 5.
VIETNAM 18 -- Sundberg 11, Kim 4, Thien 3, Long 0.
