THE Gilas Pilipinas men’s 3x3 team kicks off its campaign in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup as it plays in the qualifying round on Wednesday in Singapore.
Coached by Patrick Fran, the team is composed of Jeff Manday, JJ Manlangit, Joseph Sedurifa, and Anton Eusebio and coming off fresh from ruling the Got Game PH 3x3 Season 3.
The Filipinos are in the Qualifying Draw B together with Macau, South Korea, and India.
They face Macau in their opening game on Wednesday noon followed by South Korea at 7:20 p.m.
Gilas faces India for its final game in the qualifier on Thursday at 12:35 p.m.
Fran, who previously coached multi-titled PBA 3x3 team Meralco, said only one team will advance to the major draw, where it joins no. 2 seed China and Chinese Taipei in Group B.
Also part of the men’s 3x3 team are Lawrence Hawkins and veteran Alfred Batino, together with physical therapist Miguel De Guzman, staff doctor Carlo Arada, and utility Ariel Pilongco.
Likewise seeing action is the Gilas Pilipinas women’s 3x3 team composed of Camille Clarin, Mikka Cacho, Jhazmin Joson, and Kaye Pingol.
The team also emerged champion in the distaff side of the Got Game PH 3x3 Season 3.
Already qualified to the main draw, the Filipino cagebelles are bracketed in Pool D with no. 4 seed Australia and the qualifier in Draw D which could be amongst Indonesia, Turkmenistan, Macau, and Papua New Guinea.
The team begins its campaign on March 29.
Meanwhile, the Gilas Pilipinas U23 team finished 2nd runner up in the Got Game PH 3x3 Season 3 coached by Lester Del Rosario.
Comprising the squad are Nic Cabanero, Zed Etulle, Kyle Jamora, Irene Galas, and Jynno Ladimo.
