THE Gilas Pilipinas Girls’ 3x3 crashed out of the quarterfinals of the 2019 FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup after dropping a 12-21 loss to powerhouse China, Friday afternoon in Ulanbataar, Mongolia.
It was a rough start for the Philippines as it fell behind 0-5 behind the troika of Xianglin Wu, Bei Wu, and Zhouze He.
Camille Clarin was able to break the dryspell of the Philippines in the 8:11 mark of the game, but China responded with back to back baskets to take a 7-1 lead, and take control of the game for good.
The closest the Philippines got was to within three points, 12-15, behind Ann Pingol and Angelica Surada with 1:16 remaining in the game.
That’s when He put her foot down, scoring back to back deuces to take the fight out of the Filipinas for good.
Bei Liu then drained the winning basket with 22.7 seconds left in the game to formalize China’s entry into the semifinals.
Surada led the 14th seed Philippines with four points which will most likely settle for an eighth place finish.
He led China with 12 points as they now await the winner of the Japan-New Zealand game.
The scores:
China 21 - He 12, Liu 6, Wu 3, Gao 0
