LUCENA - Jio Jalalon, Roger Pogoy, Matthew Wright, Raymond Almazan and Allein Maliksi are the new faces in the final 12-man lineup of Gilas Pilipinas for the Southeast Asian Basketball (Seaba) announced by national coach Chot Reyes on Friday.
The four joined Gilas regulars Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, June Mar Fajardo, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario, and Jayson Castro in the May 12-18 championship which Manila will host.
Rounding up the team is naturalized player Andray Blatche.
Reyes announced the the names of the players alphabetically.
"It's very balanced, its' very versatile, it has size. And I think it is a great combination of rookies and veterans," coach Chot Reyes said shortly after announcing the roster following the game between the national team and the Luzon All-Stars at the Quezon Convention Center here.
"I mean rookies to the Gilas system, rookies to the PBA, and veterans as well."
Reyes admitted having to agonize of coming up with the 12-man lineup that he still consulted with his coaching staff the late addition to the roster shortly after the national team's 122-11 win over the Luzon All-Stars.
"We have to go back to the dugout and have a quick discussion. We basically have nine to 10 names on our list and we just had to discuss in the end who would make the final lineup," stressed the Gilas coach.
Reyes though made the announcement of the lineup inside the team dugout before making it public.
"I wanted them to hear it from me. Gusto ko mairning nila sa akin," he said.
