GILAS Pilipinas repeated over Ivory Coast, 73-63, to end its campaign in the Torneo de Malaga on a winning note early Sunday morning in Spain.
For the second straight day, Robert Bolick showed the way for the Filipinos with 19 points as he and big man Andray Blatche set the tone of the match for the national team early on.
Blatche added 18 points and 18 rebounds for the Filipinos, who finished their European training camp with a 3-1 record heading home.
Gilas Pilipinas' second straight win over Ivory Coast somehow made up for its 82-71 loss to Congo the other day that denied the Filipinos a chance meeting with world No. 2 Spain in the four-country pocket tournament.
"The short tournament enabled us to gain confidence as we enter the last two weeks of preparation for the FIBA World Cup," said coach Yeng Guiao.
Marc Gasol and co. earlier whipped Ivory Coast, 79-62, to arrange a final day showdown with Congo at Pabellon Martin Carpena Malaga.
Paul Lee and Japeth Aguilar added nine each for Gilas Pilipinas, which shot better from the field against the opposition.
Gilas Pilipinas was also more active on the ball by having an 11-4 advantage in steals and committed less turnovers, 7-14.
Bolick hit a three while Blatche completed a four-point play to engineer a 12-5 run as the Filipinos posted their first sizeable lead at 36-25 with 2:04 left before the break.
Gilas had its biggest lead at 50-38 with three minutes to go in the third period.
The team, which beat Ivory Coast, 94-83, in a friendly earlier in Guadalajara, again made do with a nine-man rotation as veteran guard Gabe Norwood again failed to suit up due to a mild groin strain.
Guiao and his boys return to the Philippines on Tuesday for the final two weeks of preparation for the Fiba World Cup before departing for China on Aug. 29.
