GILAS team manager Aboy Castro allayed fears about the injury suffered by Ranidel de Ocampo following a hard foul he received from an ACB player during the national squad’s 89-58 romp in a tune-up match in Vitoria, Spain on Sunday.

The 6-foot-5 De Ocampo was going for a dunk when he was tagged by a hard foul. He left the game with both his left elbow and wrist iced and did not return to action again.

“Couple of scary moments when Ranidel was hit hard while going for a dunk,” Castro told Spin.ph on Monday. “His left left elbow and wrist were iced immediately.”

Castro later assured the injury was nothing serious.

Gilas playmaker LA Tenorio was also hit in the face by a wayward elbow from a 6-foot-11 Spanish big man, though the diminutive guard from Barangay Ginebra managed to finish the game.

It was Gilas’ third straight victory in its pre-Fiba World Cup tune-up matches, counting the team’s 95-74 shellacking of Miami Pro-Am, and the 93-84 win over Elev8 in South Beach last week.

Castro said the team will resume training on Monday and Tuesday, before leaving Vitoria to begin its trip to Antibes, France for a three-game pocket tournament.

Gilas plays France's national team on Friday, followed by Australia, before taking on Ukraine on Sunday.

The nationals then return to Spain in San Sebastian where Gilas plays Euskadi on August 19 and Angola on August 21, before returning to Vitoria to face Mexico.

The Filipinos wind up their two tune-up matches in Guadalajara, Spain on August 24 against Dominican Republic followed by Egypt on August 25.
