GILAS Pilipinas coach Chot Reyes said there is still no decision on which players the country will be sending to the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
While the participation of PBA players in the 2019 Fiba World Cup qualifiers is cast in stone, Reyes said such is not the case with the Asiad to be held in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
Reyes admitted he is still talking with PBA commissioner Willie Marcial with regards to the country’s participation in the Asian Games.
“That’s something that we are talking about with Commissioner Marcial,” said the national coach. “Again, we are at the mercy of the PBA schedule.”
“Pinag-uusapan pa,” said Reyes.
Incidentally, the fourth window of the 2019 Fiba World Cup's Asian qualifiers, actually the start of the second round of hostilities, will be played days after the Asiad on September 13 and 17.
In the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, the Gilas team that played in the 2014 Fiba World Cup in Spain was fielded with revisions to the lineup, finishing out of the podium in seventh place.
Gilas, however, has the option of sending cadets to the Asian Games if a team of PBA players is to be tapped for the fourth window of the Fiba World Cup qualifiers.
At the moment, a team of cadets led by Ricci Rivero and CJ Perez has started its buildup for the team's participation in the Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup this summer.
