GILAS Pilipinas will open its Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers campaign at home against Thailand on February 20, according to a schedule released by Fiba on Wednesday.
The Group A match against Thailand marks the start of Gilas Pilipinas' bid to qualify for the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup under the home-and-away qualifying format first introduced by Fiba in the World Cup qualifiers.
To round out its assignments in the first window, Gilas Pilipinas will play an away match on February 23 against Indonesia, which will be coached by Smart Gilas coach Rajko Toroman.
Gilas Pilipinas will then another away game in the second window against Korea on November 27 before travelling to face Thailand again on November 30.
The third and final window will see the Philippines host Indonesia on February 18 and Korea on February 21, 2021.
The top two teams in each of the six brackers will advance to the Fiba Asia Cup 2021 while the third placers in each group will play another round of matches to determine the last four qualifiers.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) has yet to lay down its plans for the Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers, whose first window was moved from November this year to February 2020.
