Gilas in a dogfight vs Iraq at halftime of crucial Asia Cup tilt

GILAS Pilipinas and Iraq ended up tied at 33 at the half of their final group stage game of the FIBA Asia Cup 2025 at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Dwight Ramos evened things up with a three with 13 seconds left in the second quarter to tie things up at the break.

The game was tied even with Justin Brownlee being held to just one point in the first half, after splitting his two free throws with 1:30 left in the second quarter.

The Gilas naturalized player, the leading scorer of the team with 28 per game, shot 0-of-6 from the field, three of which on threes in the first half.

Ramos finished the first half with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the field to keep Gilas Pilipinas in the game after playing catch-up for most of the first half.

Carl Tamayo had six points on back-to-back threes that got Gilas Pilipinas ahead for the first time in the match, 22-21.

Iraq led by as many as six points in the first half after it hit 6-of-13 from three-point range, already doubling their conversion from their 87-60 loss to Chinese Taipei last Thursday.

Ali Ismael had 10 points while burying all three of his three-point attempts for Iraq.

The winner of the match will advance to the qualification to the quarterfinal phase of the tournament, while the loser will exit the tournament winless.
