NEEDLESS to say, there is concern in the Gilas Pilipinas camp following the injury suffered by Kai Sotto last Sunday during a Japan B.League game.
Sotto’s left knee buckled awkwardly during the Koshigaya Alphas' game against the Sea Horses Mikawa. He never returned to the match, but Sotto stayed on the bench until the final buzzer.
The Gilas camp is neither optimistic nor pessimistic. As of posting time, Gilas is still waiting for the MRI result of Sotto’s injury.
“Well, nakita natin ‘yung video. It’s difficult to speculate until we get the MRI,” said Gilas Pilipinas assistant coach Richard Del Rosario.
Sotto getting injured is the last thing Gilas wants after another big man in AJ Edu was sidelined during the November window due to an injury that also occurred during the lead-up to the Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers.
Sotto is coming off an impressive performance during the November window where he had 19 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and two blocks against New Zealand, and 12 points and 15 rebounds against Hong Kong.
Both ended in Gilas victories.
