GILAS Pilipinas may have lost the man potentially capable of calling the shots for the country's campaign in the Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers.
Alex Compton has returned to the US with his family and likely, will stay there for good, leaving the national team one less candidate again for a possible coaching job in the resumption of the qualifiers this November.
SPIN.ph learned Compton already bade goodbye to friends as early as August and left for Wisconsin shortly after.
Messages left for the 46-year-old Compton has been left unanswered until posting time.

Compton found himself without a coaching job after parting ways with Alaska prior to last season's Governors Cup.
But he was tapped as full-time deputy coach of Gilas Pilipinas, only for the COVID-19 pandemic to mothball the national team program for the past seven months.
With the uncertain times, Compton decided to pack his bags and left for the US with his family, reportedly even selling some of his personal properties in the country.
Compton, who steered Alaska to five runner-up finishes in his six season as head coach of the Aces, appeared to be the best possible choice to handle Gilas in the Asian Cup qualifiers with interim mentor Mark Dickel not available for the November meet owing to his job as active consultant of TnT Tropang Giga.

Dickel handled the national team's stint in the first window last February, a 100-70 rout of Indonesia in Jakarta, with Compton serving as his lead deputy.
Like Dickel, the other Gilas assistant coaches Topex Robinson and Sandy Arespacochaga are also inside the PBA bubble during the Asian Cup second window. Robinson is currently the interim coach of Phoenix, while Arespacochaga is with the TnT coaching staff.
SBP program director Tab Baldwin recently said there is no rush yet on naming a head coach for Gilas as the premium at the moment is to complete a 14-man roster especially with the unavailability of PBA players.
Baldwin had Compton as deputy when Gilas Pilipinas finished runner-up to China during the 2015 Fiba Asia Men's Championship in Changsha, China.
