GILAS Pilipinas came up with a strong finish in the second quarter to trail Chinese Taipei by two points, 47-45, at halftime of their FIBA Asia Cup 2025 qualifiers match on Thursday at the Taipei Heping Basketball Gymnasium.
Mohammad Al Bachir had 13 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field in the first half, while Ting-Chien Lin had 12 points for Chinese Taipei, which led by as many as 13 in the first two quarters of the match-up.
But Gilas Pilipinas was able to cut the deficit to two points on a 7-0 run with Dwight Ramos scoring the final five points of the stretch.
Prior to that run, Justin Brownlee was the lone bright spot for Gilas in the first half with 19 points, three rebounds, and four assists.
Gilas Pilipinas went on a scoring drought in the first three minutes of the second quarter, enabling Chinese Taipei to build a 13-2 run for a 35-22 advantage, the biggest lead of the clash.
Gadiaga and Ting picked up the slack offensively with naturalized big man Brandon Gilbeck playing limited minutes for being saddled with two fouls.
The Philippines is out to maintain its unbeaten slate in its fifth game of the group stage of the qualifiers, before closing the competition on Sunday against New Zealand.
