THE away match of Gilas Pilipinas against Indonesia in the Fiba Asia Cup 2021 qualifiers on Feb. 23 will push through, according to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.
The SBP also confirmed Fiba Asia has postponed the Philippines' match against Thailand at the Smart- Araneta Coliseum, considering the advice of the Department of Health on the novel coronavirus.
"At 7:55PM, SBP received word from FIBA Asia postponing the Philippines game vs Thailand on Thursday, February 20, 2020 in SMART Araneta in consideration of the Philippine Department of Health Advisory against " . . . organizing events with mass attendance" as a precaution re threat of the corona virus epidemic," said the SBP.
"However, the game against Indonesia in Jakarta on Sunday, February 23rd will proceed as scheduled," the SBP added.
The SBP added Fiba Asia has yet to indicate when the match against Thailand will be held.
With the Indonesia game pushing through, for now, Gilas Pilipinas of interim head coach Mark Dickel will definitely be continuing with their preparations for game set at Britama Arena in Jakarta.
The hosting of Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers is just one of the many sporting events that have been postponed due to the threat of the coronavirus in the country.
The PBA has moved its opening day from March 1 to 8, while all events in the UAAP from February 15 onwards have also been pushed back indefinitely.
The NCAA volleyball matches have also been called off.
