GILAS Pilipinas could not solve the puzzle that was Jordan, suffering an 84-74 defeat in the King Abdullah Cup semifinals Sunday (Manila time) at Prince Hamza Hall in Amman.

    Gilas vs Jordan recap

The Philippines could not complete its rally from 15-points down as the same old three-point woes coupled with Jordan owning the battle of the boards spelled doom for the Filipinos late.

Trailing by 11, 70-59 with 8:11 still to play, Gilas could only get to as close as four, 72-68, after an Ange Kouame basket with 3:24 remaining.

But Sami Bzai's three and buckets from Cameron Forte and Ahmad Al Dwairi denied that rally as the Falcons took the 79-70 lead with 1:48 left en route to a repeat win over Gilas.

Al Dwairi closed in on a triple-double with 19 points, 16 rebounds, and seven assists as Jordan earned the right to play in the championship game against Egypt.

Forte also unloaded 19 points, six rebounds, and three assists, Fadi Mustafa got 17 points, eight assists, and six boards, and Amin Abu Hawwas also scored 14 points for the hosts.

It was a repeat of Jordan's 84-72 win over the Philippines a day prior to end their respective elimination assignments.

Ange Kouame rebounded from his poor shooting a day prior to lead the Filipinos with 20 points and six rebounds, but he was the lone player to crack double digits in the loss.

Jordan Heading had nine points on 3-of-7 shooting, as Dave Ildefonso and Thirdy Ravena notched eight apiece in a game where Gilas shot 7-of-28 from downtown, a paltry 25-percent clip.

Gilas could not sustain its hot start after taking an 8-2 lead, allowing Jordan to zoom ahead with a 24-3 blast to grab a 26-11 first quarter lead and take control of the game.

The Filipinos also couldn't solve the imposing Jordanian frontline, losing the rebounding war, 43 to 35.

Gilas will now be relegated to the third place game against Tunisia at 9 p.m. on Sunday.

The Philippines narrowly escaped Tunisia, 74-73 in overtime in their preliminary matchup last Friday.
