GILAS Pilipinas ended a disappointing 2019 World Cup campaign without a single win after losing in lopsided fashion to Asian rival Iran, 95-75, on Sunday night at the Beijing Wukesong Sports Center.
Hamed Haddadi and his teammates proved a handful as they dealt the Filipinos another beating which - coupled with host China's 86-73 loss to Nigeria - enabled Iran to punch a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
Iran and China finished the tournament at 2-3 (win-loss), but the former finished as the best Asian team when the tiebreak came into play.
Gilas, on the other hand, finished the tournament 0-5 and in danger of finishing dead-last in the 32-team conclave - its final placing hinging on Jordan's game final against Senegal on Monday.
Gilas wound up with a points differential of -147. Jordan is at -132 and will finish last if it loses to Senegal by 16 points or more.

Haddadi and longtime teammates Nikko Bahrami and Mohammad Jamshidi combined for 52 points for Iran, which was an efficient 49 percent (23-of-47) from the field and 44% from three-point distance on 8-of-18 shooting.
The Iranians also beat Gilas off the boards, 43-30.
World Cup debutant Robert Bolick led the Philippines in scoring with 15 points while Andray Blatche added 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting to go with five rebounds and three turnovers.
Gilas' frustrations came to a head at the final 5:23 mark of the game while trailing by 27, 89-62, when Blatche and coach Yeng Guiao were hit with successive technicals for complaining about the referees' calls.
Gilas stayed in this game for much of the first quarter, keeping Iran in its sights until Haddadi - still dominant at 34 - started putting his imprint on the game with baskets from both inside and out.
The 7-foot-2 international veteran already had 14 points and seven rebounds by halftime, when the Iranians opened a 48-34 lead.
