GILAS Pilipinas shoots for a sweep of Thailand in the 2021 Fiba Asia Cup qualifiers on Monday at Khalifa Sport City.
The youthful Philippine squad showed no fear against the all-pro Thais in a 93-61 beatdown and look to make it two for two when the countries meet for the second time in four days.
Dwight Ramos scored 20 points in the first match as he went perfect from the field in 19 minutes of action.
Juan Gomez de Liano and debutants Justine Baltazar, Rey Suerte, and Javi Gomez de Liano also had their share of the limelight as the Philippines rose to 2-0 in Group A of the qualifiers.
Head coach Jong Uichico opted to have a minimal change in the roster, with Calvin Oftana and Jaydee Tungcab set to play their first official game as Gilas members, taking the spots of Mike Nieto and Will Navarro.
Kobe Paras will still lead the Philippines together with Isaac Go, Matt Nieto, Dave Ildefonso, and Kemark Carino in the 9 p.m. tiff.
Gilas is looking to improve its record ahead of the February 2021 window.
The Filipinos are expecting a tough fight from the Thais, who suffered a 90-76 defeat to Indonesia on Saturday.
Surely, they would be motivated to score at least a win, no less an upset, against the Gilas boys as Thailand leans on Chanatip Jakrawan and Nattakarn Muangboon.
