SOME local bettors had mixed emotions after Gilas Pilipinas’ 113-66 victory over Singapore in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship on Saturday night.
While happy that the Philippines won, some rued that that the win wasn’t as dominant as they had hoped for.
After all, as wide as the 47-point margin was, it came 11 short of what bettors who bet on the Philippines in the point-spread game had hoped for as oddsmakers installed Gilas a - 57.5 favorite, meaning a bet on the Philippines would only win if they win by at least 58 points.

One bettor was so confident that Gilas would cover the spread that he placed a P10,000 bet that sadly lost.
“Oo, durog,” the bettor, who requested not to be named, said after the game.
His confidence came after Gilas was coming off a 107-point blowout of Mynamar on opening night.
“Nakataya din kasi ako nun, P10k din,” he said.
At least, bettors who bet over on the over-under spread cashed in as the combined output of 179 points was well over the 148-point spread installed by sports books.
