A GILAS Pilipinas veteran is in the running for a return as the national pool for the Fiba Asia Cup from August 8 to 20 in Lebanon has been revealed.
Gabe Norwood was included in the 24-man pool that coach Chot Reyes announced on Saturday afternoon through his Twitter account.
The 32-year-old Norwood has represented the country in the continental level since 2009 and was only excluded in the pool for the last Southeast Asian Basketball Association Championship last May as Reyes began a youth movement.
But the Rain or Shine point forward has gained another call-up, this time for the reformatted continental showpiece next month.
Norwood joins fellow PBA veterans Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Raymond Almazan, June Mar Fajardo, Allein Maliksi, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario, Jayson Castro, Baser Amer, Kevin Alas and Norbert Torres in the pool.
Roger Pogoy, Matthew Wright, Carl Bryan Cruz, Kevin Ferrer, Mac Belo, Jio Jalalon, and Mike Tolomia are the PBA rookies/cadets in the pool that has amateur standouts Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks and Kobe Paras.
Christian Standhardinger is an overseas-based standout, while Andray Blatche is the naturalized player in the pool.
