SOCIAL media is still abuzz about the vicious one-handed dunk Gabe Norwood threw down in Gilas Pilipinas’ Fiba World Cup game against Argentina Monday night (early Tuesday morning, Manila time).
“Gabe Norwood” has become a trending topic on Twitter for hours now, owing to not just one but two of his slams against the Argentines, ranked third in the world.
The NBA’s social media accounts even shared the scintillating dunk of Norwood over NBA veteran Luis Scola, and even labeling it as the best dunk in the Fiba World Cup so far.
“Best SLAM of the @FIBA Basketball World Cup so far?,” wrote the NBA on its Twitter and Facebook accounts that has 11 million followers and 25 million likes respectively, while sharing the video of Norwood’s dunk over Scola in the Fiba’s YouTube channel.
The same video of Norwood’s dunk over Scola shared by the NBA has also become part of the Must Watch section on the YouTube channel of Fiba.
The Philippines- Argentina match also got its share of attention as it was broadcast live in the United States through NBA TV.
It was also played during America’s Labor Day, allowing several Americans to wrote their take on the thrilling game, which Argentina won, 85-81.

In the end, Gilas Pilipinas failed to convert in the waning seconds to suffer its third straight loss. Still, admiration poured in on the effort shown by Gilas, which led by as many as 10 points in the first period and rallied from a 15-point deficit in the third quarter to make a game out of it going home.
Despite its 0-3 record, SB Nation NBA editor Mike Prada said Gilas Pilipinas deserves to advance into the knockout rounds.
“Can we give the Philippines a wild card into the round of 16?,” wrote Prada.
