FRANCE welcomed as favorable being bracketed in Group A with powerhouse United States in the coming Rio De Janeiro Olympics.

The French quickly learned about the Olympic bracketing as the draw of lots for the August 5-21 Summer Games were conducted shortly after Les Bleus topped the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Manila on Sunday night with an 83-74 win over Canada at the Mall of Asia Arena.

France coach Vincent Collet was on hand to witness the draw. He shook hands with fellow team official when Croatia was later drawn in Group B, obviously happy that the French were bracketed with the Americans and given them a better chance of going deep into the tournament.

“I think it’s better to be with the United States. After that, you must finish second,” said Collet, whose team’s only chance of facing the defending champions could only come during the gold medal match.

Les Bleus will be joined in the group by early qualifiers Venezuela, China, Australia, and Serbia, which made it to Rio by ruling the FIBA OQT in Belgrade.

Group B is now composed of Argentina, Spain, Brazil, Lithuania, Nigeria, and FIBA OQT Turin winner Croatia.
