A five-man Philippine team quietly left for Astana, Kazakhstan early Tuesday morning to compete in the Fiba 3x3 U18 World Championships starting on June 1.
National University's prized recruit Joshua Sinclair banners the national side that also includes John Lloyd Clemente, Kyle Christian Tan, and Theo Joshua Flores. Coach is Mark David Solano, who will also act as team leader and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) 3x3 officer.
The quartet held its last training at the Meralco gym Monday afternoon under the supervision of NU coach Eric Altamirano.
A total of 20 teams will be competing in the same meet where Kobe Paras and Co. represented the country a year ago, but failed to make it past the group stage.
Sinclair, the former Sacred Heart-Ateneo de Cebu star, saw action for the Manila South team which competed in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Manila and was part of the Batang Gilas squad which won the Seaba U-18 championship in Medan, Indonesia last April.
Flores was part of the same victorious Batang Gilas team with Sinclair, his teammate at NU and former rival in Cebu, having played for the University of the Visayas juniors team.
Clemente was one of the stalwarts of the NU Bullpups team that won the recent UAAP championship, while Tan formerly played for UNO high school.
The tournament will be held from June 1-5 at the Astana Opera House.
