No reserves for Gilas, but manager clarifies changes allowed until eve of Fiba Asia

    Sep 8, 2015

IF you're wondering why no reserves were named after Gilas Pilipinas revealed the Final 12 for the coming Fiba Asia Championship, it's because Fiba no longer requires the naming of reserves in international.

Gilas team manager Butch Antonio made this clarification on Tuesday, shortly after the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas named the 12 players that will fly the flag for the Philippines in Changsha, China from Septemebr 23 to October 3.

"Under Fiba rules, there are no reserves. Just 12 players," said Antonio.

But having no reserves doesn't mean the Philippines, or any competing country for that matter, can no longer make changes to the lineup they submitted to organizers before the Tuesday deadline.

Changes, in fact, are allowed until the eve of the tournament, with choices coming from the 24 players submitted to the Fiba Asia last August 20 as part of the 24-man pool of the Philippine team.

So, it's not only the final cuts - namely Gary David, Aldrech Ramos, Jimmy Alapag and Troy Rosario - who Gilas can name as a replacement if officials decide to make changes from now until the start of the tournament.

Gilas can also tap anyone from that list, which includes, among others, June Mar Fajardo, Jordan Clarkson, Bobby Ray Parks, LA Tenorio, Paul Lee and even amateur star Kiefer Ravena.

    Remote but possible.
