AFTER competing in the Fiba World Cup, Gilas Pilipinas opens its bid for a gold medal in the 2014 Asian Games on September 23 in Korea.
The Nationals will start their Group E preliminaries at the Hwaseong Sports Complex against the top team from Group B that will emerge in the qualifiers.
Group B is composed of Saudi Arabia, Kazakhstan, Palestine, and India, which will play a single round-robin tournament for two spots in the preliminaries.
Gilas Pilipinas will then take a rest day on September 24 before facing Asian champion Iran on September 25 at the Hwaseong Sports Complex.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals where they will form Groups G and H and play a single round-robin tournament.
The top two teams from each group will move up to the crossover semifinals.
Gilas Pilipinas will have at last a week of rest before plunging into action in the Asian Games after they compete in the Fiba World Cup from August 30 to September 14 in Spain.
Group C is composed of defending Asian Games champion China, Chinese Taipei, and the second-ranked team in Group B, while host South Korea, Jordan, and the second-seed team in Group A comprise Group D.
Group A of the qualifiers is made up of Mongolia, Hong Kong, Kuwait, and Maldives.
