THE Philippines has been drawn in a relatively light group for the Fiba Asia Championship in September in China.
Gilas Pilipinas, the runner-up in the 2013 edition held here in Manila, has been bracketed in Group B with Palestine, Kuwait, and a country from East Asia which could either be Hong Kong or Mongolia, following the draw on Saturday night in Changsa, China.
Defending champion Iran is in Group A with Japan, Malaysia, and one South Asia country, while host China is with Korea, Jordan, and Singapore in Group C.
Chinese Taipei, Lebanon, Qatar, and Kazakhstan are in Group D, considered this editions’ group of death.
The top three teams from each group will advance to the next round. Only the champion will have an outright berth to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
