THE Philippines fell short of making the quarterfinals with a slim loss to Hungary, 16-18, but went on to rout Poland, 21-8, to end its stint in the 2016 Fiba 3x3 World Championships in China on a winning note.

The team of Mac Belo, Karl Dehesa and Glenn Khobuntin had to overcome the loss of Russel Escoto due to an injury, but managed to put up a gallant stand against the higher-ranked Hungarians.

Still, Hungary held off a valiant Philippine squad to claim the last of two quarterfinals spots in Pool C. The first slot went to Pool C leader Spain, who were unbeaten in the eliminations.

But the Filipino cagers vented their ire on a winless Poland team. They established a big lead early and never looked back en route to holding Poland to match a tournament-low eight points.

The Philippines ended their stint third in the group with an even 2-2 record.
