AN INVITATION has already been sent out to Pres. Duterte to watch Team Pilipinas host Kazakhstan in the fifth window of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers this coming weekend.
Team head delegation Bong made the disclosure on Sunday after watching the second tune-up match between the Philippines and Lebanon at the Meralco gym in Ortigas.
"As of now, most likely inimbitahan po namin siyang manood to give morale support sa ating team. And I'm sure it will boost the morale of the team kung makakapanood siya sa Friday sa MoA Arena," said Go after the match which the Lebanese won, 71-58.
If it pushes through, this will be the second time the President will be personally watching the national team in action.
Just shortly after getting elected as President in 2016, Duterte did the ceremonial toss for the Gilas Pilipinas-France match in the Fiba Olympic qualifier also at MoA Arena.
Go, the former Special Assistant to the President who is also passionate about basketball, arrived at the venue just before the second half began, with the host trailing, 32-36.
And the public official saw for himself how big and how physical the opposition was.
"Talagang physical at malalaki yung kalaban. Very athletic," was how he described the Lebanese team.
He also noted how the visiting team's defense forced Team Pilipinas to a couple of turnovers especially in the stretch run.
It was the third loss for Team Pilipinas out of the four tune-up games it played against Jordan and Lebanon in preparation for the penultimate window of the qualifiers.
Nonetheless, Go, who will be running for Senator in next year's national elections, still remains confident about the Filipinos' chances against Kazakhstan on Nov. 30 and Iran on Dec. 3.
"I'm looking forward sa laro on Friday that we can beat Kazakhstan," said the 44-year-old Go, who flew directly from Davao just to watch the game.
"Malaki ang tiwala ko sa team natin na mananalo tayo."
