MALICK Diouf and Elizabeth Means stepped closer to gaining Filipino citizenship after the Senate passed on third and final reading bills seeking to grant their naturalization on Monday.
Sen. Francis Pangilinan sponsored House Bill Nos. 6640 and 6641, which will now be submitted to the House of Representatives where it will be discussed again before being submitted to Malacanang for it to be enacted into law.
Diouf is being eyed to be naturalized after his stint with University of the Philippines in the UAAP where he helped the Fighting Maroons win a championship in Season 84.
Means, on the other hand, played in NCAA Division II Westminster University.
Both are being eyed to join the Gilas 3x3 pool.
As the papers of Diouf and Means are now being processed, Bennie Boatwright naturalization has yet to be tackled since he has not yet arrived in the country.
In a statement, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas thanked the Senate, saying that it is “another step forward for PH basketball.”
