BOCAUE — Defending champion Russia proved why it’s the odds-on-favorite in the women’s tournament of the 2018 Fiba World Cup, blasting its foes on Saturday at Philippine Arena.
Liudmila Sapova led the charge for the Russians with a total of 18 points in a pair Day Two routs - a 22-8 decimation of Uganda which they followed with a 21-9 clobbering of Andorra.
However, the Russians are not alone at the top in Pool C.
Team USA also made waves with its convincing wins over Iran, 21-7, and Andorra, 21-6.
In Pool A, top seeds Czech Republic and Italy also hurdled their foes. Romana Hejdova steered her Czech side to a 22-11 win over Turkmenistan and a 22-11 rout of Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Rae Lin D’Alie weaved her magic for the Italians in a 22-9 conquest over Malaysia and a 21-10 decision past Turkmenistan.
The Perlas Pilipinas girls returns to action on Sunday as the Philippines attempts to make a last gasp run to the playoffs.
