LUCENA - It was definitely a day to remember for Star guard Allein Maliksi.
After emerging as the new three-point shootout king in the PBA All-Star Week, Maliksi savored another blessing in the form of his inclusion in the final Gilas lineup that will compete in the 2017 Seaba Cup next month.
"Siyempre, thankful kay God sa opportunity na dumating dito sa point ng career ko," said Maliksi after hearing his name called by national coach Chot Reyes during the announcement of the Final 12 for the May 12-18 showpiece in Manila.
"Even before gusto ko na makalaro sa national team. Sino ba naman ang hindi? It’s an honor to serve our country. Ang laking fulfilment sa career ko. I work very hard to improve my game. Thankful and blessed na medyo ‘yung lahat nagma-match na," he added.
The former University of Santo Tomas star said the Gilas call-up wasn't much of a surprise, saying he worked really hard to earn the spot.
"Hindi naman surprising that much. I need to turn it up na makasama sa Final 12. Hindi ko in-expect na maila-lineup ako, pero I work hard every practice to earn it," he said.
But the work has just started, Maliksi said.
"Preparation and focus lang. Just need to be ready every time na dumating yung opportunity. Dumating yung time na you need to make shots, you have to make it. Kailangan i-ready lang ang sarili," said Maliksi.
