CHICAGO - Like fish to water, Kai Sotto has quickly adapted to his new home with the Altiri Chiba of the Japan B.League Premier.
After signing with the team this past September, the 7-foot-3 center immediately proved to be a prized acquisition by averaging a hefty 12 points, 11.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists to start the 2026-27 season.
But after a solid four-game start, the 24-year old has been racking up absences faster than you can say “DNP.”
The culprit is an ankle sprain, and while X-rays revealed no structural damage, Sotto has been sidelined out of an abundance of caution.
NO CAUSE FOR CONCERN.
And with the new dad missing in action, Altiri has spiraled to a 3-7 win-loss record.
Not to worry, though, the 232-pound behemoth should steer Chiba back to their winning ways shortly.
While he couldn’t go into detail due to health privacy concerns, Tony Ronzone of The Team told me on Friday that Kai “will be okay.”
And Gilas fans shouldn’t lose sleep, either.
There’s plenty of time between now and late November for the ankle to heal in time for the upcoming Gilas window.
QMB IS ALL-IN.
Speaking of Gilas, Quentin Millora-Brown, currently balling with the league-leading Nagoya Diamond Dolphins, is set to rejoin Gilas after missing the July window following hernia surgery.
“QMB is committed to play for Gilas in the November window. He has always been eager and excited to represent the Philippine flag," the 6-foot-10, 245-pound center’s agent, Tod Seidel, told me via text message.
With Bennie Boatwright’s naturalization finally minted, plus 'Motor Mike' Phillips also committed, size should not be an issue when Gilas squares off against Syria and Iran next month.
