JAKARTA – Jordan Clarkson appears to be looking forward to another stint with the Philippines in the next Asian Games.
And he wants medal.
Clarkson hinted about the possibility when he spoke before fellow Filipino athletes in a dinner hosted by the Philippine embassy on Thursday night.
“Congratulations to the medalists. Next time, it will be us,” Clarkson said, referring to the basketball team, according to a sports official present in the event.
The next Asiad is set in 2022 in Hangzhou, China, by which time Clarkson will be 30. If he plays, the NBA guard will likely be joined by youngsters like Kai Sotto and AJ Edu.
The timing, if ever, will be perfect as Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) officials also want Clarkson to spearhead the national team in the 2023 Fiba World Cup which the Philippines will be co-hosting with Indonesia and Japan.
The Cleveland Cavaliers guard was granted a one-time exemption to play for the Philippines in the Asiad by the NBA along with Chinese players Zhou Qi and Ding Yanyuhang.
He will be rounding out his stint with the Philippines on Friday night when it plays Syria in the battle for fifth place at the GBK Istora.
