FANS have seen how Christian Standhardinger dominated the paint after stints with Gilas Pilipinas this year.
What they have yet to witness is his new shooting style from the free throw line which was in full display during his Hong Kong Eastern Sports Club's tune-up match against NLEX on Thursday.
The 6-7 Fil-German slotman left spectators and players both stunned and amused when he shot his free-throws one-handed.
Asked about it, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 PBA Rookie Draft said he was just trying something "unconventional" in the hope of improving his free-throw shooting.
"You know, I'm trying a lot of things out. I'm a basketball player, if you watch me play, I'm not very conventional, I'm just efficient," he said after the Eastern Lions' 98-85 win over NLEX.
"That's the same thing with the free throw. It has not been working for me so good in the last two years, so I'm figuring something unconventional out, and I'm hoping that works better for me. I have a good feeling."
Asked if he will use the same stroke when Hong Kong opens its title-retention bid in the Asean Basketball League (ABL) against Alab Pilipinas on Nov. 19 at the Mall of Asia Arena, the Fil-German nodded.
"Of course, of course. I think I'm gonna stick with it. It feels good, I like it," he said. "You know, I'm working on some stuff, trying to figure some stuff out, but I'm pretty confident that I'm going in the right direction."
