CHRISTIAN Standhardinger is a game time decision for Gilas Pilipinas as it rounds up its campaign in the pool phase of the 2017 Fiba Asia Cup on Sunday with a game against Qatar in Beirut, Lebanon.
As per a team report, the 6-foot-7 Fil-German is suffering from a severe case of both stiff neck and shoulder that put his availability in question for the 9 p.m. game (Manila time) at The Nouhad Nawfal Stadium.
Standhardinger, playing as Gilas' naturalized player in the Asian spectacle, skipped Saturday’s practice and watched the team go through its routine at the sidelines as shown in the reality TV series Kwentong Gilas.
The injury to Standhardinger came at a time when June Mar Fajardo finally rejoined the team in practice after missing its first two games owing to a strained right calf muscle. The 6-foot-9 center, however, is also uncertain if he’ll play against the Qataris, still winless in two games.
Standhardinger has been playing well in Gilas Pilipinas first two games and averaged 15.5 points and 6.5 rebounds.
In the game against Iraq Friday night, he scored 10 straight points to start the second half and sparked the big third quarter turnaround that allowed Gilas to pull away for good and notch a second straight win.
With a 2-0 record in pool B, Gilas is already assured of a quarterfinals berth even if it loses against Qatar.
