CHOT Reyes was quick to shoot down the claim of Calvin Abueva that he's back in consideration for the Gilas Pilipinas roster for the second window of the 2019 FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Reyes, who dropped Abueva and Raymond Almazan from consideration for matches against Australia and Japan, said nothing has changed as far as Abueva's status in the national team is concerned.

"Sino nagsabi?" Reyes querried when asked by mediamen about Abueva's statements saying he is back in the hunt for a spot in the Gilas lineup.

"Baka nananaginip lang siya," added the national coach at the end of Gilas practice at the Meralco Gym.

Abueva said before practice that he was just glad to be part of the hunt again for the Gilas roster that will compete against Australia and Japan in the home-and-away tournament two weeks from now.

Asked by reporters after practice about Reyes' denial, Abueva said he was told 'to be ready' in the event he was recalled into the pool for the matches against the Boomers and the Japanese.

He said Reyes is in a better position to answer the questions.

“Actually hindi ko pa alam (kung) nakabalik na ako, pero siyempre pinagre-ready lang ako,” stressed Abueva, who only missed one Gilas practice since coming back again following his talk with Reyes.

“Nakabalik nga ako sa practice, ang sinasabi lang sa akin mag-ready ka lang.”

As of Tuesday night, Reyes kept the status quo.

“We haven’t made any decisions either way because we’re still assessing all the injury status of the other guys. So we’re not yet in a position to make the final decision or determination about it,” said the Gilas coach.

Reyes also cautioned Gilas fans not to get too excited about Abueva making it back to the pool.

“Huwag tayong excited,” he said with a sheepish smile. “We took him out of consideration for the second window but he remained part of the pool.

“And I’ve always said people can play themselves into consideration into the pool and out of the pool or out of consideration. There’s no change there.”
