CHOT Reyes announced on Friday the resumption of Gilas Pilipinas practice on June 20 as he called up a batch of players that included amateur stars Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, Raymar Jose, and Fil-German Christian Standhardinger.

The Gilas coach made the announcement on his official Twitter account, just a day after meeting with PBA commissioner Chito Narvasa and Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) president Al Panlilio to lay down his plans ahead of the Fiba Asia Cup and the Southeast Asian Games.

Aside from the new amateur recruits, Reyes also called up Gilas cadets Jio Jalalon, Mike Tolomia, Almond Vosotros, Ed Daquioag, RR Pogoy, Matthew Wright, Von Pessumal, Kevin Ferrer, Carl Byan Cruz, Mac Belo, Fonz Gotladera to the June 20 practice.

Gilas team manager Butch Antonio said the arrival of Paras, Ravena, Jose, and Standhardinger is in line with the SBP's thrust to 'enhance' the current pool of players at the national team's disposal.

"We just want to improve the pool," Antonio, also the SBP's deputy executive director for external affairs, told SPIN.ph.

Antonio said the June 20 schedule is also in line with the memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed by both the PBA and SBP that mandates the release of the cadets to the Gilas pool 60 days before the start of an international tournament.

Gilas pool members from the ranks of PBA veterans, led by June Mar Fajardo, Jayson Castro, and Calvin Abueva, will be released to the national team 15 days before the tournament, in this case the Fiba Asia Cup set from August 8-20.

Gilas cadets are expected to make up the bulk of the team to the 2017 SEA Games set from August 19-30 in Kuala Lumpur.

The surprise call-up was Standhardinger, a 6-7 big man who plays professionally in Germany after a stint in the US NCAA with University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

Asked if Standhardinger is eligible to play for Gilas, Antonio said they have already submitted his eligibilty papers to Fiba for scrutiny and, hopefully, approval.
