BOCAUE — China and Spain took early lead in the women’s tournament of the 2018 Fiba 3x3 World Cup, dispatching their opponents in the first day of the competitions on Friday at Philippine Arena.
The top-seed Chinese won their first two assignments in Pool B, first escaping France, 16-14, before holding off Switzerland, 21-20.
The Swiss’ Nancy Fora scored on a putback to put her side up, 20-19, but Li Yingyun responded with a booming corner two-pointer to give China a 2-0 mark.
Li also ranks second in scoring through Day One with her 18 points, two short of leader Marielle Giroud of Switzerland.
Spain was equally impressive, first taking out Germany, 18-12, before toppling last year’s silver medalist Hungary, 19-14, to seize the lead in Pool D.
The Hungarians failed to score in the final minute as the Spaniards ran away with their second win.
The Philippines ended the night in a heartache, falling to Germany, 12-10, in the nightcap.
