GILAS Pilipinas hopes the injury to forward Carl Tamayo isn't bad enough to make him miss the host team’s Sunday game against Iran in the FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers.
The 6-foot-7 Tamayo went down with a left sprained ankle early in the third quarter of the Filipinos’ dramatic 82-81 overtime win against Jordan Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Tamayo stepped on the foot of Ahmad Al Dawairi while driving to the basket just 7:58 into the second half and Gilas trailing, 46-43.

He was grimacing in pain when he fell to the floor following the injury.
Although the shooting forward out of University of the Philippines managed to go back limping to the Gilas bench, he never returned to the game and finished with eight points, a rebound, and an assist.

The injury Tamayo sustained proved to be the low side in the team’s huge win over Jordan that saw Gilas battle back from as many as 18 points down.
Kevin Quiambao drained the go-ahead three-pointer in the final 13 seconds of the extra period, 82-79, before Kai Sotto preserved the thrilling win with an emphatic block on a possible game-winning drive by Abdullah Olajuwon.
