CALVIN Oftana left Gilas Pilipinas’ game against Iraq on Saturday after re-aggravating an ankle sprain in his right foot in the FIBA Asia Cup 2025.

Oftana was in a world of pain after he stepped on the foot of Iraq player Ihab Al-Zuhairi with 3:19 left in the fourth quarter of Gilas’ 66-57 win.

Replays showed Oftana holding on to his right foot after the incident, and was helped by Justin Brownlee, team manager Alfrancis Chua and physical therapist Arcee Cua on his way back to the bench.

Oftana has been dealing with injuries to both of his ankles, and was playing through it during the PBA 49th Season Philippine Cup finals when TNT faced San Miguel for the title.

Those ankle issues were also the reason why Oftana was initially doubtful for the FIBA Asia Cup until the coaching staff decided to take the TNT gunner as part of the Gilas roster.

Unfortunately, Oftana got hurt minutes after making that three-point shot.
