GILAS Pilipinas gets added fire in its FIBA World Cup campaign with the return of Calvin Abueva to the national team pool.

The enigmatic forward was just too happy to be reconsidered by coach Chot Reyes for possible inclusion in the team’s final 12-man roster against Australia and Japan for the second window of the home-and-away qualifiers.

“Siyempre masaya ako at nakabalik ako sa team,” he said just before Gilas practice on Tuesday night at the Meralco gym. “Hindi pa naman positive lahat, pero talagang magpapakundisyon ako para dito.”

Abueva, who biked his way to the national team’s practice, was initially dropped by Reyes from the current pool for the second window – along with Raymond Almazan – after failing to attend the Gilas’ first three Monday night practices.

But after personally talking to Reyes, ‘The Beast’ became a regular fixture again in the team’s scrimmages, prompting the coaching staff to think things over and give him a second chance.
