BOBBY Ray Parks, Kiefer Ravena and pros Matt Ganuelas Rosser and Matthew Wright head tha names in a 24-man lineup which the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) submitted to Fiba Asia for its forthcoming Challenge Cup in Iran.
Gilas manager Butch Antonio bared the 24-man list, a mix of professional players from the PBA and ABL, amateur standouts and relative unknowns, serve as the candidates for the 12 spots in the Philippine team that will compete in the Iran showase from September 9-18.
"Yes, we've submitted the list to Fiba Asia last night (Tuesday night)," Antonio told SPIN.ph. "Gahol na kasi sa oras."
The list includes pros JP Erram and Almond Vosotros of Blackwater, Rosser and Wright, the Fil-Canadian guard who won Asean Heritage MVP honors after leading the Westports Malaysia Dragons to the last ABL title.
Also named to the pool were Gilas cadets mainstays Mac Belo, Russel Escoto, Mike Tolomia, Kevin Ferrer, Jio Jalalon, Von Pessumal, Roger Pogoy and Ravena - all expected to be on top of the list when the SBP forms the Gilas 5.0 pool for the home-and-away qualifiers of the 2019 Fiba World Cup.
But the list also has surprise addition in Mon Abundo, Yutien Andrada, Chris Javier and Kemark Carino.
Completing the roster are Carl Bryan Cruz, Ed Daquioag, Alfonzo Gotladera, Jonathan Grey, Jaymar Perez, Arvin Tolentino, Almond Vosotros and Arnold Van Opstal.
Head coach is Josh Reyes, a longtime Gilas assistant coach who inherits the mantle from Tab Baldwin.
According to Antonio, Baldwin will be busy with his commitment to UAAP side Ateneo in the lead-up to the Iran tournament.
However, Antonio was quick to point out that the 24-man pool will be solely for the Fiba Asia Challenge Cup and is totally separate from the Gilas cadets pool which SBP plans to form for the World Cup qualifiers.
