THE process of granting Filipino citizenshp to American basketball player Justin Brownlee continues to move forward with the Senate approving the bill on second reading.
Senate Bill 1336 and House Bill 6224, both seeking the naturalization of Brownlee, were approved by the members of the Senate on Monday.

The bills only needs to pass on third and final reading before it goes through a committee composed of the Senate and House of Representatives for revisions, and the signing into law by President Marcos Jr.
The process is expected to be completed before the February window of the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asian qualifiers, with Brownlee being considered for the national team.

In the plenary, Sen. Francis Tolentino, the chairman of the Committee of Justice which approved the bill, stated Brownlee’s willingness to not just play for the country but also to serve the military during calamities.
Tolentino also told the plenary Brownlee’s desire to stay in the Philippines even after his playing days are over.
