FILIPINO naturalization candidate Bennie Boatwright underwent surgery for an Achilles injury in the US and will be out of action for a few months.
A SPIN.ph source said the San Miguel import had the procedure around two weeks ago.
The 28-year-old power forward last played for the Shangxi Loongs in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) after he powered the Beermen to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup championship last year.

The same source however, is unsure when Boatwright suffered the injury or if he had been dealing with the health issue even before.
“Not aware kung saan or kailan siya na-injured,” said the source.
Boatwright is a candidate for naturalization with Gilas Pilipinas after former senator and now Department of Education Secretary Sonny Angara filed Senate Bill 2646 which seeks to grant citizenship on the 6-foot-10 former US NCAA Division 1 player.

The injury should, in the short term, derail Gilas coach Tim Cone's plans to immerse the naturalization candidate in the Gilas environment during the buildup for the November qualifiers of the Fiba Asia Cup.
