THE Philippine youth team stretched its winning ways in the Fiba Asia U16 Championship after whipping Iraq, 78-69, to start its second round campaign in style.
The Batang Gilas got 16 points from Gian Mamuyac while Kris Pagsanjan and Samjosef Belangel combined for 23 markers in the win, the fourth straight for the Filipinos, who are tied with China for the lead in Group F.
The Filipinos get their first acid test in the week-long meet in Jakarta, Indonesia when they tackle regional rival South Korea on Monday.
The Sokors are a game behind Batang Gilas in the group with a 2-1 slate, their lone loss coming at the expense of the Chinese, 91-65, in the first round.
After South Korea, the Philippines cap its preliminary round campaign with a showdown against China on Tuesday.
