BATANG Gilas absorbed another loss in a tuneup match but coach Mike Oliver there is time to work on defense ahead of the Fiba Asia Under-16 Championship.
The nationals lost to Far Eastern University Tamaraws by 10 points on Wednesday but Oliver was glad to see better movement.
“The boys played better than our last two practice game but we still need to improve on our defense,” Oliver said.
It was the last in a series of tuneup games for Batang Gilas, earlier bowing to FilAm Sports USA and Arellano University, but practice will continue during the Holy Week.
Batang Gilas will hold its final practice on Good Friday before heading to Foshan, China for the Asian tournament set April 2 to 8.
The Philippines is grouped with Malaysia and Australia in Group B with Batang Gilas playing Malaysia on Monday at the Foshan Lingnan Mingzhu Gymnasium.
Batang Gilas will take a break on Tuesday before capping off the preliminaries against Australia on Wednesday.
The top two teams in the four groups will advance to the knockout quarterfinals.
The top four teams will advance to the 2018 Fiba Under-17 Basketball World Cup.
